About ACTIVE TRAIL

ACTIVE TRAIL is the 15.0km trail race at Salomon Žumberak Trail 2025 (Perivoj dvorca Erdody, Jastrebarsko, Croatia). The race starts on June 28, 2025.

Race strategy

Run the climb at race pace, build your speed on the downhill, and go all out at the finish.

  • 596m descent. Go easy, save your quads.
  • The finish is runnable. Save your legs to run it all the way.
  • Control your HR on the first mountain, save your quads on the way down from it until 8.4km, then run your race pace.
  • Start · 0.0km–1.7km · Race-day nerves push your heart rate up: don't follow the crowd, find your own rhythm.
  • Settle in · 1.7km–8.4km · Climb of 247m, high point 758m, descent of 596m averaging 12%. Ease in: hold back more than feels necessary. The race is still ahead. Climb by heart rate or breathing, not pace. This descent is hard on the legs: short steps, stay in control, poles if you have them.
  • Home · 8.4km–15.3km · 6.8km of runnable trail. Build to the finish: leave whatever you have left out on the course. Running pays off here: run wherever you can.

Course

The course climbs 400m+. With 27m/km of climbing, this is a rolling, mostly runnable course. By gradient, 26% of the distance is uphill, 36% downhill and 38% flat. The longest climb runs 3.5km at an average 7.1% grade (247m of vertical). The longest descent runs 5.0km at an average 12.0% grade (596m of vertical). The steepest climb averages 19.7% over 0.6km. The steepest descent drops at 25.7% over 0.2km. Surface: 35% trail, 34% smooth, and 29% road. Flat-equivalent effort: 19.5 FlatKM.

Summits

The highest summit on the course is Plešivica (779m), 3.4km from the start. Other named summits along the route: Lepa glavica (268m).

Poles

Poles bring little benefit here: only about 0.6km of pole-friendly terrain.

Quad damage

Quad damage risk is low (index 12 of 100): a few descents worth noting, none of them decisive.

  • Control your HR on the first mountain, save your quads on the way down from it until 8.4km, then run your race pace.
  • #1 · 3.5–8.4 km · 596 m D−, -12.0% · 6.8 km ahead → control

Weather

On race day, start temperatures have historically ranged from 16°C to 26°C, with around 20°C at the highest point; the chance of precipitation is about 38%.
