About Canyons 50K

Canyons 50K is the 50.0km trail race at Canyons Endurance Runs by UTMB 2025 (Auburn, United States). The race starts on April 24, 2025.

Race strategy

Run the climb at race pace, build your speed on the downhill, and go all out at the finish.

  • Start easy and control your HR up to 11.4km.
  • Hold your race pace up to 36.9km, but stay in control.
  • The finish is runnable. Save your legs to run it all the way.
  • Ease into the early runnable section, then run your race pace.
  • Start · 0.0km–2.1km · Race-day nerves push your heart rate up: don't follow the crowd, find your own rhythm.
  • Settle in · 2.1km–11.4km · Plus 1 more climb. Ease in: hold back more than feels necessary. The race is still ahead. Climb by heart rate or breathing, not pace. Running pays off here: run wherever you can.
  • Work · 11.4km–36.9km · 22.3km of runnable trail, high point 591m. Plus 1 more descent. This is where the race is built: steady, solid effort. Running pays off here: run wherever you can.
  • Home · 36.9km–49.9km · 13.0km of runnable trail. No heroics: settle back into your own effort and hold it to the line. Running pays off here: run wherever you can.

Course

By gradient, 38% of the distance is uphill, 39% downhill and 23% flat. The longest climb runs 3.8km at an average 7.5% grade (282m of vertical). The longest descent runs 3.1km at an average 11.1% grade (347m of vertical). The steepest climb averages 22.8% over 0.4km. The steepest descent drops at 18.6% over 1.1km. Summits

The course also passes close to Robie Point (367m).

Poles

Poles bring little benefit here: only about 2.4km of pole-friendly terrain.

  • 33.8–36.9 km · 347 m D−, -11.1% · 13.0 km ahead → your pace
