About Cerro Lindo 22K

Cerro Lindo 22K is the trail race at Patagonia Bariloche by UTMB 2027 (Argentina). The race starts on November 20, 2027.

Race strategy

Run the climb at race pace, build your speed on the downhill, and go all out at the finish.

  • Start easy and control your HR up to 6.6km.
  • Hold your race pace up to Cerro Otto, but stay in control.
  • Final 653m descent. Save your legs to go all out on it.
  • Ease into the early runnable section, then run your race pace, and start the final descent from 13.1km under control, then go all out near the bottom.
  • Start · 0.0km–2.0km · Race-day nerves push your heart rate up: don't follow the crowd, find your own rhythm.
  • Settle in · 2.0km–6.6km · Ease in: hold back more than feels necessary. The race is still ahead. Running pays off here: run wherever you can.
  • Work · 6.6km–13.1km · Climb of 479m, high point 1418m. This is where the race is built: steady, solid effort. Climb by heart rate or breathing, not pace.
  • Home · 13.1km–21.4km · Descent of 653m averaging 8%. Build to the finish: leave whatever you have left out on the course. Very long descent: first half under control, then even, let go only near the end.

Course

By gradient, 42% of the distance is uphill, 46% downhill and 11% flat. The longest climb runs 6.5km at an average 7.4% grade (479m of vertical). The longest descent runs 8.3km at an average 7.9% grade (653m of vertical). The steepest climb averages 18.7% over 0.3km. The steepest descent drops at 17.2% over 1.1km. Surface: 77% trail, 12% smooth, and 9% road.

Summits

The course also passes close to Cerro Otto (1405m).

Poles

The course is runnable enough that trekking poles are not needed.

Quad damage

Quad damage risk is low (index 14 of 100): a few descents worth noting, none of them decisive.

  • Ease into the early runnable section, then run your race pace, and start the final descent from 13.1km under control, then go all out near the bottom.
  • 13.1–21.3 km · 653 m D−, -7.9% · 0.0 km ahead → even, first half under control, let go at the end
