High Challenge is the 14.0km trail race at Absolute Biokovo Challenge 2027 (Croatia). The race starts on May 9, 2027.
Run the climb at race pace, build your speed on the downhill, and go all out at the finish.
The course climbs 1720m+. With 123m/km of climbing, the course is exceptionally steep, with long hiking-grade sections. By gradient, 55% of the distance is uphill, 32% downhill and 12% flat. The longest climb runs 9.6km at an average 16.5% grade (1585m of vertical). The longest descent runs 3.8km at an average 9.2% grade (345m of vertical). The steepest climb averages 53.2% over 0.2km. Trekking poles are strongly recommended: about 3.4km of the course is steep enough for them to pay off.
There is too little runnable descent to damage the quads: plan the race around climbing and fuelling.
