About TUT13

TUT13 is the 13.6km trail race at Tara Ultra Trail 2027 (Serbia). The race starts on June 5, 2027.

Race strategy

Short race: go all out.

  • Hold your race pace up to 7.0km, but stay in control.
  • Control your HR on the first mountain, save your quads on the way down from it until 4.9km, then run your race pace, and go all out on the final descent from 7.0km.
  • Start · 0.0km–1.8km · Race-day nerves push your heart rate up: don't follow the crowd, find your own rhythm.
  • Work · 1.8km–7.0km · Climb of 241m, high point 602m, descent of 251m averaging 8%. Plus 1 more climb. This is where the race is built: steady, solid effort. Climb by heart rate or breathing, not pace. This descent is hard on the legs: short steps, stay in control, poles if you have them.
  • Home · 7.0km–13.3km · Descent of 351m averaging 5%. Kick for the line: give it everything you've got. Long descent: keep it even and let go only near the end.

Course

The course climbs 550m+. With 40m/km of climbing, this is a rolling, mostly runnable course. By gradient, 27% of the distance is uphill, 50% downhill and 23% flat. The longest climb runs 2.1km at an average 11.9% grade (249m of vertical). The longest descent runs 6.4km at an average 5.5% grade (351m of vertical). The steepest climb averages 20.4% over 0.9km. The steepest descent drops at 21.5% over 0.5km. Surface: 45% smooth, 42% trail, and 12% road. Flat-equivalent effort: 16.3 FlatKM.

Poles

Poles bring little benefit here: only about 2.5km of pole-friendly terrain.

Quad damage

Quad damage risk is low (index 9 of 100): a few descents worth noting, none of them decisive.

  • Control your HR on the first mountain, save your quads on the way down from it until 4.9km, then run your race pace, and go all out on the final descent from 7.0km.
  • #1 · 1.8–4.9 km · 251 m D−, -8.1% · 8.5 km ahead → control
  • 7.0–13.4 km · 351 m D−, -5.5% · 0.0 km ahead → even, let go at the end

Weather

On race day, start temperatures have historically ranged from 15°C to 25°C, with around 20°C at the highest point; the chance of precipitation is about 53%. Heavy rain of 10.0mm or more falls on about 7% of days around this date.

This page has a pacing and nutrition planner, a gradient matrix, an interactive elevation profile and historical weather for TUT13.
