About Ben Nevis Skyline

Ben Nevis Skyline is the 38.0km skyrace at Skyline Scotland by UTMB 2027 (Fort William, United Kingdom). The race starts on September 18, 2027 at 10:00 AM. It starts in Fort William and finishes in Nevis Range. The time limit is 9 h.

Race strategy

Run easy on the first mountain, then go all out on the second.

  • Final 1477m descent. Save your legs to go all out on it.
  • Steep 32% wall. Control your pace and stay focused.
  • Go easy on the first downhill, then run your race pace, and start the final descent from 22.6km under control, then go all out near the bottom.
  • Start · 0.0km–1.7km · Race-day nerves push your heart rate up: don't follow the crowd, find your own rhythm.
  • Settle in · 1.7km–16.7km · Climb of 676m. Plus 2 more descents. Ease in: hold back more than feels necessary. The race is still ahead. Climb by heart rate or breathing, not pace.
  • Work · 16.7km–22.6km · Climb of 778m. This is where the race is built: steady, solid effort. Climb by heart rate or breathing, not pace.
  • Home · 22.6km–36.7km · Descent of 1477m averaging 10%, high point 1330m. No heroics: settle back into your own effort and hold it to the line. Very long descent: first half under control, then even, let go only near the end. Hike the steepest pitches.
